The client’s home is a three-bedroom semi-detached property with a side driveway in a residential area of Havering. Our clients had found they had outgrown their home as they are extending their family. However, they were reluctant to move as they preferred the area and neighbourhood and decided it would be more cost effective to extend the property instead.

The Design

Inspired Plans came up with a design that meets the Havering Design Guide, one that complements the surrounding neighbourhood and streetscape. The first step was to survey the property to get the correct measurements for the potential side extension. After, we spoke with our clients to pin-point what exactly they want to achieve from the side extension. They asked us to provide a playroom downstairs that would extend from the lounge, a garage to provide adequate space for a car and storage space along with two bedrooms upstairs for the proposed side extension.

The Process

The proposed design made sure to add a matched finish and roof tiles to the extension. The proposed design ensured that the council granted planning permission for the project. As this was the first precedent in the area, neighbours were informed of the possibility for home extensions on this street. Considerations were made when designing the side extension to make sure it kept the integrity of the area’s architecture, whilst ensuring the client’s needs are met.
